SNC-2050 SubNet Relay Controller

822-2590-001

Overview

The Rockwell Collins Subnet Relay Controller (SNC-2050) system gives you true mobile, ad hoc networking technology for net-centric operations in remote locations. The system works by creating mobile, ad hoc IP networks by reusing existing (fielded) radios. Through relaying, the SNC-2050 extends the operational coverage of radios, which reduces your reliance on satellite communications and enables you to share communication resources.

You’ll get a fully distributed (masterless), self-configuring, self-organizing IP network with dynamic selection of relays and bandwidth provisioning. Currently fielded in a number of nations, the SNC-2050 is also being standardized in NATO under Draft STANAG 4691 – Mobile Ad hoc Relay IP Network (MARLIN).

Key Features & Benefits

  • True mobile, ad-hoc, networking technology: The SNC-2050 is a fully distributed (masterless), self-configuring, self-organizing IP networking technology that features dynamic selection of relays and bandwidth provisioning.
  • Operates at data rates from 3.2 kbps (HF) to 1.92 Mbps (V/UHF): The SNC-2050 network controller has been tested with external modems at data rates from 3.2 kbps to 1.92 Mbps.
  • Interface to legacy equipment: The SNC-2050 is designed to be independent of modem/radio layers, enabling its use with many crypto/modem/radio combinations.
  • Automatic use of both intelligent relay and routing: The system provides dynamic relay selection to avoid collision possibly due to multiple relays. The total number of relays required by the system in any configuration is constantly minimized.
  • Masterless architecture: No single point of failure.
  • Dynamically allocated channel bandwidth: The system’s bandwidth available to a node is based on traffic load and other factors.
  • Supports standard TCP/IP and UDP/IP protocols
  • Built-in TCP Performance Enhancing Proxy (PeP): SNC-2050 incorporates a TCP PeP to address the performance issues associated with the use of the TCP protocol over satellite and wireless links.
  • Built-in, real-time data compression: Done on the fly to maximize system throughput.
  • Automated slot merging: The SNC-2050 system is configurable for automated slot merging, which reduces the overhead associated with crypto/modem/radio and improves system efficiency.
  • Spatial slot re-use: Automatically determines when two nodes can transmit at the same time without collision.
  • Control Software Development Kit (SDK): Comes standard with the unit, to allow application developers to interface their products to the unit using socket connections.
